The composition of the French army during the Hundred Years War included heavily armed soldiers and light infantry.The first category included riders in fully armed, the second category was mostly archers, crossbowmen and sergeants.
Throughout the 14th century, crossbowmen — among whom the Genoese mercenaries were the best — were always at the forefront of the structure, since their main task was to fight English archers.
In battle, infantrymen usually wore brigantine armor, various types of shields, as well as bascinetts or caps to protect the head.
