The glider model SHK is a further development of the standard Austria, which was constructed in 1958 by Ing. Rüdiger Kunz - Austria. In 1965, Standard Austria was reworked by Klaus Holighaus's collaboration with Schempp-Hirth, Kirchheim (SHK). The span was increased from 15 to 17 meters and the SHK received a retractable landing gear. The built in 1967 SHK -67 had in the fuselage a thrown down dropping parachute.

As a model for the model on a scale of 1: 4,25 served at times on the glider airfield Übersberg near Reutlingen stationed SHK, plant no. 27, registration number D-5445. The model with a span of 4000 mm was created with the help of plans of the company Schempp-Hirth. The new edition of this model has been completely revised and brought to the usual standard today.   

The GfK hull has molded fuselage-wing transitions as well as a guide of the cabin frame. The rear part is removable - access to storage and control of the suspension system (see photo). The cockpit parts made of plastic are included in the kit.

The wing attachment forms a round steel bar with Ø 12 mm guided in a brass tube, a wing fuse is enclosed. As root profile a modified profile Selig S 4233 was chosen, modified in the course of the entire span in two steps. In addition, the wing got a geometric setting. This design ensures excellent flight behavior, especially in circles, ie in thermal flight.

In order to be able to adjust the center of gravity without much lead, the tail units are covered with balsa.

The flight characteristics of the model are balanced, ideal for thermal flying and not too harsh wind conditions on slopes. At your own discretion, a retractable landing gear or a tow coupling can be installed.
